POSITION SUMMARY
The Retail Packaging Engineer reports to the Director of Supplier Operations; they are responsible for aligning business needs with the appropriate resources and identifying production solutions. This individual is a leader within the company who acts with professionalism, determination and is solution oriented. The Retail Packaging Engineer has the below key responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with Creative, Project Managers and Product Manufacturers to ensure packaging designs are aligned with manufacturing processes and optimised for cost and luxury quality. Expertly guide teams on materials best suitable for production and customer goals
- Visit mills, printers, and converters to perform press checks, quality inspections, lead discussions for improvement, and represent the company during customer visits
- Drive departmental improvement goals by leading in-zone technical review of pre-production samples, coordinate shipments to HQ and act as key liaison between BD and Quality
- Plan and follow-up on trial production and program implementation
- Manage capacity, for suppliers in Europe, by identifying, resolving, and escalating production constraints; If any lag or issue, identify solution for re-stabilisation and action plan for success
- Support factories in achieving goals: lean manufacturing (specifically hand-made production), competitive costs, advanced technology, minimised risks, and drive continuous improvement
- Support the department director in collecting manufacturer’s data, for annual evaluation and other project requests
- Ability to complete all tasks with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-up
- Lead professional, accurate, and helpful communication with internal and external constituents to complete assignments and resolve issues
- Must understand basics of project management to realise the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain Packaging commitments to project scheduling
- Analyse and problem-solve efficiently; work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes to priorities
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the development, testing, and production of new packaging using a range of component manufacturing processes and materials: advanced knowledge of aesthetic and performance testing methods (crocking, resistance, colour deviation, etc.)
- Paper packaging experience required: deep knowledge of printing, hot stamping, paper production, and board
- Fluency in English and French; any other language skills are a plus
- Ability to travel, regularly 50% work travel, 50% in office
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with planning handmade production is a bonus
