A key position within this successful, long established print firm based in the Southern Home Counties to oversee all production activities ensuring continued improvement in operational efficiency and maximizing profitability from the manufacturing processes and people development.

Applicants are invited from any sector of print or packaging, but must currently or in the last five years held a management position in a company with a minimum of 50 staff.

Assisting with the strategic development & management of operational viability & profitability of the business
-trouble-shooting where required.
-Ensuring operational requirements of the support functions are met.
-Monitoring progress against KPIs, analysing & interpreting results bearing in mind current & future market & business conditions.
-Review historic loadings analysis & current sales projections with Planning Manager to determine future resourcing & cross-selling requirements.
-Review previous week’s performance and generate weekly performance data across post press manufacturing processes, Identify top loss issues and implement plans for improvement activities. Present data and plans for improvement at the weekly cost deployment meeting.

Managing, leading, and developing operational managers to ensure business goals are met
-Providing guidance in respect of business direction and on call support where required.
-set key operational objectives, aligning with overall business goals, and ensuring effectively cascaded down through operational areas
-ensure managers understand their role in achieving goals & objectives, providing coaching and mentoring where required to develop their skills and knowledge within the business and improve productivity

Responsible for quality, environmental, and health & safety practice and adherence within areas of responsibility.
-Provide on-site/on call support where required to ensure direct reports solve issues and drive root cause analysis to eliminate reoccurrence.
-Ensure effective maintenance & resolution of quality incidents processes & meetings.
-Ensure managers fulfill their responsibilities, and are compliant with regulatory & company policy & procedure.
-Ensure operational procedures comply with regulatory requirements without negatively impacting productivity

Ensure effective and efficient analysis of departmental expenditure to determine future requirements and assist with maintaining financial stability & profitability of the business
-use analysis to identify and drive sustainable efficiency improvements
-ensure balance maintained between costs/resourcing & work input/output
-determine ongoing requirements for permanent & casual staff, to minise operational cost.
-examine short term financial impact, long term investment, and business benefit for operational improvements, prepare & present business cases to the Board for approval on improvement projects and future investments.
-Assist in setting annual performance targets and cost budgets.

Expertise & Self Development
Maintain up to date and accurate awareness of industry developments and corporate & legal governance to ensure business compliance within area of responsibility
Develop skills and knowledge to provide cover during absence for the line manager

Able to make effective use of IT applications appropriate to the role

Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Effectively & proactively engage managers to ensure effective implementation of change initiatives within areas of responsibility
Lead the development of a culture of continuous improvement through identification, standardisation, implementation, and maintenance of best practice

Compliance
Oversee maintenance of safe working environment within area of responsibility, inc adherence to COSHH regulations, ensure 5S audits and health & safety audits are conducted effectively
Ensure timely completion and review of risk assessments, ensure effective investigation of incidents & accidents and implementation of recommended actions
Ensure waste disposal managed in accordance with procedures
Ensure direct reports understand and fulfil their legal responsibilities
Ensure effective communication of all HSEQ procedures and consultation with staff on H&S matters

Planning & Performance
Ensure team aware of targets & their contribution in achieving them, through regular team briefs, etc.
Ensure effective communication with all relevant parties to minimise impact of issues & ensure effective resolution
Ensure direct reports appropriately trained to cover absences
Manage individual performance through appropriate performance management review processes and deal with poor performance effectively and efficiently
Ensure effective planning & delivery of induction, ensure effective preparation & delivery of team development plans in liaison with Human Resources & Development team
Ensure all staff competent to complete tasks assigned. Complete training needs analysis (TNA) to identify any skills gaps and ensure development activities put in place to resolve.
