Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Fitter

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established packaging company for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Fitter to join their site in Essex. This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, offering excellent earning potential and long-term stability.

🔧 Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair production machinery
  • Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Set up machinery for production runs
  • Replace components including bearings, belts, chains, and motors
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and restore production
  • Support machinery upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
✅ Requirements
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills
  • Experience working with gearboxes, motors, and conveyors
  • Ability to strip down and rebuild machinery
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and solve problems
⭐ Preferred Experience
  • Background in paper, packaging, or cardboard manufacturing
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and/or hydraulics
  • Multi-skilled maintenance experience

Expected Weekly Hours: 54 hours

  • Monday – Thursday: 06:00 – 17:00
  • Friday: 06:00 – 13:30
  • Saturday: 06:00 – 11:00

Core Hours (38 hours/week):

  • Monday – Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
  • Friday: 06:00 – 13:30

Overtime:

  • Paid at time-and-a-half
  • Approx. 16 hours overtime per week

👉 Important: This role involves a 54-hour working week, with overtime forming a regular and expected part of the schedule.
