We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established packaging company for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Fitter to join their site in Essex. This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, offering excellent earning potential and long-term stability.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair production machinery
- Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance to minimise downtime
- Set up machinery for production runs
- Replace components including bearings, belts, chains, and motors
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and restore production
- Support machinery upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
✅ Requirements
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills
- Experience working with gearboxes, motors, and conveyors
- Ability to strip down and rebuild machinery
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and solve problems
⭐ Preferred Experience
- Background in paper, packaging, or cardboard manufacturing
- Knowledge of pneumatics and/or hydraulics
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience

Expected Weekly Hours: 54 hours
- Monday – Thursday: 06:00 – 17:00
- Friday: 06:00 – 13:30
- Saturday: 06:00 – 11:00
Core Hours (38 hours/week):
- Monday – Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
- Friday: 06:00 – 13:30
Overtime:
- Paid at time-and-a-half
- Approx. 16 hours overtime per week
