Major Accounts Manager

Our client is a Major International Business where for the right individual; a highly satisfying and rewarding career can be forged. We handle a great number of account management positions at any given time and I would say this is the best position at this level by far. Why:-

1/ Our client – blue chip level of company.
2/ The package – what other company offers such an attractive OTE for an account management position.
3/ The account – you will be managing accounts that are household names
4/ On the road – with most account management jobs you are in the same office day in day out, with this position, you are out and about around the greater London area.

The freedom of the road normally reserved for sales staff, but this time no new business at all!!!!!
Looking good?? Even I want to apply for this one!! In order that I don’t build up anyone’s hopes by applying who might not be right, can I cut to the chase (polite language for no Bull), this is what we are looking for:-

1/ Old school!!! We want someone from traditional print….. not labels, not packaging, not POS, not DM….I won’t list all the not’s, just to say please only apply if you have a strong print background.
2/ Sales – this is not a new sales position however there is an element of upselling involved (but only in established long standing accounts) therefore must have some form of sales in your recent past.
3/ Account management – we could consider someone from sales and yes what a great opportunity to get away from the harsh world of looking for new business however you would have to show you have account management experience. Now, all sales people think they have experience of account management however by this I mean the heavy admin side of managing and running an account.

As we get hundreds of applications every day and we just have to say in these ads “we can’t reply so if you don’t hear from us with 3 days it means sorry you are not a match” A lot of recruiters will put “we only get back to candidates who are suitable” some don’t put anything and just don’t back to anyone who is not suitable. For those recruiters who get back to each and every applicant, I salute you; I wish we had the time to do it. Anyway, what I want to say, for this vacancy I will be different in that I will let you know as quick as I can if you are a match. Unfortunately I won’t be able to go into any detail as to why you are not a match but please accept that after doing this for 27 years, I might useless at so many things, but I do know print recruitment and I certainly know exactly what this client is looking for.

2/ Notice period.
3/ Most importantly. Details of the largest account you have managed in the last 5 years (if you don’t want to say the actual name say eg “a telecoms company” or “utility company”) and give me an idea of what you did to increase the spend in that account. You might want to say “when I took over the account it was X and now (or when I left) it was Y” . What did you do to achieve this?

The key with point number 3 above is letting me know what you did to increase the spend on the account. Did you introduce new print services to the client? Did you use your relationship to sell to other departments?
