We are working an innovative organisation, which offers a full-service packaging facility to the cosmetics sector. Their in-house creative team has extensive resources and experience to support customer specific creations. The company pursues a program of continuous improvement at all levels and strongly believes in enhancing via training. They seek to deliver quality and value both internally and externally, and continually invest in refining and developing its offering to clients.

They are looking to recruit a Packaging Technologist to assist in the development of new products. This role requires a customer focused individual who can think both analytically and innovatively.  You must have an aura of professional self confidence and a passion for learning.

Job Overview

To provide the business with technical support to enable the successful selection and purchase of packaging components.

To provide component suppliers with all relevant technical information to enable them to quote, produce and deliver packaging in accordance with agreed specifications and standards.

Ensure that all proposed components are compatible with the brief requirements and each other in terms of fit, form and function and suitable to meet the production constraints of the business

To develop strong working relationships with suppliers and customer to proactively and creatively support the NPD process in meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of the customer, ensuring the business retains and develops existing customers and recruits new accounts.

To ensure that all the relevant and key technical data is recorded in appropriate areas of the company’s documentation system.

 

Key Areas of Performance

  1. To participate in all aspects of the Packaging Development function, ensuring that packaging components are identified, costed and specified in accordance with customer expectations and within constraints and capabilities of the business.
  2. Ensure that responses to New Product Briefs are provided in an effective and timely manner; ensuring proposed solutions meet creative, technical, performance and cost targets.
  3. To attend off site print runs, trials, production start-ups and meetings as and when required.
  4. Ensure that relevant pack components are compatible with each other and are aligned to the production capabilities and constraints of the business.
  5. Ensure effective recording and reporting of data relating to the progress of allocated project briefs, ensuring that timing and targets are achieved and/or exception effectively communicated to the business.
  6. To raise packaging specifications for the purchasing team to obtain costs and subsequent updating to final specifications when appropriate.
  7. Initiate and control packaging documentation as required e.g. pallet plans, carrier labels.
  8. Creation of new component codes on the central database, in an accurate and timely fashion.
  9. Initiate change forms and amend Bills Of Materials as and when required by the business, ensuring that all relevant departments have acknowledged and participated in the process.
  10. Participate in cross department projects to support cost reduction and production efficiency.
  11. Participate in product design activities by identifying new innovative packaging solutions and working with internal departments to enable implementation within the business
  12. As part of a cross functional team, develop a suitable vendor base that meets current and future needs of the business while supporting cost saving initiatives.
  13. To participate in procedural reviews appropriate to function.
  14. Achieve personal, team and company KPI targets.
  15. Ensure all operations are performed in accordance with business H&S policies and business policies in terms of Good Manufacturing Practice.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must have at least 4 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally from Cosmetics, healthcare, pharmaceutical or Food sectors.
